Originally used to store oil when the building operated as a power station, The Tanks were excavated during Tate Modern’s 2012 expansion and transformed into the world’s first gallery permanently dedicated to live art, performance, installation, film, and events.
These two raw, subterranean circular spaces lie beneath the Blavatnik Building, embedded within its foundations. Each Tank spans over 30 metres in diameter and rises 7 metres high, offering a dramatic and atmospheric setting unlike any traditional event space.
The Tanks are available on 24 hour hires and can host up to 600 receptions, 400 dinners, or 500 theatre-style, with acoustics and lighting suited to dynamic, immersive experiences with an industrial atmosphere.
